The John Buck Company

Chicago, Illinois

For this commercial project – the headquarters of a renowned real estate developer and property operator whose work is admired for its superb quality level – the watchword was sophistication that would simultaneously attract young talent to the business. An avid art collector who requested SH Studio’s design include and exalt the exquisite artworks chosen to play a role in the interiors – think bronze sculpture, Byzantine mosaic, and primitive handcrafts – as well as encourage a sense of community among employees, the client sought a uniquely residential-feeling atmosphere that also made clear their reputation as a deal-maker, civic supporter, and enthusiast of mindful living. Shared workspaces are functional, efficient, and luxe; gathering spaces designed for meetings and dining are warm, welcoming, and inclusive of notable vintage furniture. Prized carpets and SHIIR rugs are at home here; a communal kitchen is designed to foster interaction among employees.
