A Nod to the Oscars

With the Oscars just a few days away, we have quite a bit of movie watching to do so we can informatively wage in on our Oscar bets. “The Revenant” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” are serious contenders to receive an Oscar, with 12 nominations and 10, respectively. They are bound to take home at least one gold statuette. And maybe, just maybe, Leo will finally take one home. Our spotlight, however, is on “The Danish Girl”, “Room” and animated feature “Anomalisa”.

The Oscars award a number of categories, but the one we are particularly interested in, to no surprise are Production Design, Cinematography and Costume Design. We are designers after all. Here are some movie interiors from the Oscar pool, both present and past, that have made an indelible impression.

Before Meg joined Soucie Horner, before she ran her own design firm, and before she worked for the architectural firm for This Old House television program, Meg studied to be a fine arts painter. Perhaps that’s why she considers light, volume, and space to be her starting point for all things.
